❤️ PERSONALITY

Every breeder has that one dog. The one that quietly changes everything. For us, that's Spartan. Long before he became the cornerstone of our breeding program, he became our best friend. He has that classic Australian Shepherd "velcro dog" personality, always happiest simply being wherever we are. He doesn't need to be the center of attention. He doesn't demand constant entertainment. He's content just being part of the family, whether we're hiking through the woods, working outside, taking a road trip, or relaxing at home.

 

If we had to describe Spartan in three words, they'd be calm, dependable, and loyal.

 

He's incredibly patient, wonderfully thoughtful, and one of the quietest Australian Shepherds we've ever met. In fact, he almost never barks. Instead, he calmly observes the world around him with the quiet confidence that has become one of his defining traits.

 

Of course, there is one thing guaranteed to bring out his playful side... Water. If there's a pond, creek, lake, or swimming pool nearby, Spartan is already halfway in. Swimming is his absolute favorite pastime, and watching him happily splash around reminds us that even the calmest dogs still know how to have fun.

 

He's simply the very bestest boy, and we wouldn't change a thing about him.

 

🌟 WHY WE CHOSE SPARTAN

When we began building Silverside, we weren't looking for the flashiest dog. We were looking for the dog we'd want to live with every single day. Health testing, structure, and pedigree all matter tremendously—but if a dog doesn't make an exceptional companion first, nothing else matters.

 

Spartan checked every box. He combines exceptional health, beautiful structure, intelligence, and athleticism with something that's much harder to find: an incredibly stable, trustworthy temperament. He's the kind of dog we can confidently take anywhere because we know exactly who he's going to be. Calm. Steady. Reliable. He's become the standard we measure every future breeding dog against.

Spartan has earned multiple AKC Performance Titles, but the titles themselves aren't what make us proud. What makes us proud is how he earned them. Spartan genuinely loves learning and working alongside his people. He approaches new challenges with quiet confidence, steady focus, and an eagerness to please that makes training feel less like work and more like quality time together.

 

His accomplishments simply reflect what we already knew—he possesses the intelligence, trainability, and versatility that have made Australian Shepherds one of the most remarkable breeds in the world.

 

🧬 HEALTH & PEDIGREE

Behind Spartan's wonderful temperament is an equally impressive foundation. Like every Silverside breeding dog, he completed comprehensive health testing, including CHIC certification, OFA evaluations, board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist eye examinations, cardiac screening, and extensive DNA testing covering more than 270 genetic health conditions and traits.

 

His pedigree represents generations of thoughtfully bred Australian Shepherds selected for health, structure, temperament, and versatility. While we're grateful for those generations, we've always believed that pedigrees don't raise puppies... Great dogs do. And Spartan has exceeded every expectation we ever had for him.

 

🐶 HIS LEGACY

If there's one thing Spartan has consistently passed on to his puppies, it's his temperament. Again and again, families tell us their Spartan puppies are thoughtful, affectionate, eager to please, and incredibly devoted to their people. Whether they're hiking mountains, earning titles, working as therapy dogs, or simply becoming someone's very best friend, they carry the same steady disposition that made us fall in love with Spartan in the first place.

 

Finding the dog who eventually carries on Spartan's legacy won't be easy. The standard he's set is incredibly high. We're hopeful that one of his sons will one day step into those very big paw prints, but until then, we're simply grateful for every puppy—and every family—that gets to experience a little piece of the dog who helped shape Silverside into what it is today. Because Spartan isn't just an exceptional Australian Shepherd. He's the heart of Silverside.
